The Pill Bugs of Time (Offbeat Crimes #2) by Angel Martinez Review

The Pill Bugs of Time (Offbeat Crimes Book 2) - Angel Martinez

Relationship and communication issues plague Officer Vikash Soren, but those are nothing compared to facing stick-throwing tumbleweeds, pill bugs and…time travel?

Vikash Soren, the perfect police officer except for his odd paranormal ability, never seems to lose his temper. Always serene and competent, he’s taken on the role of mediator in a squad room full of misfits. But on the inside, he’s a mess. Unable to tell his police partner that he loves him, Vikash struggles silently, terrified of losing Kyle as a lover, partner and friend.

But life in the 77th Precinct doesn’t leave much room for internal reflection. A confrontation with a stick-throwing tumbleweed in Fairmount Park leads to bizarre consequences involving pill bugs, statues and…time travel? If Vikash manages to survive the week and stay in one point in time, he might be able to address normal things like relationship problems. He just needs Kyle to have a little more patience. Maybe a few centuries’ worth.

Review

This is the second book in the Off Beat Crimes series and the world and characters are great.

Kash and Kyle from the first book are on the case. Being closeted at work is taking a toll on their relationship and they have a case to solve.

I liked all the adventure elements and the emotionial struggles of Kash’s character.

It was a fun read with a nice romance and HEA.

Champion (Galactic Gladiators, #5) by Anna Hackett Review

Champion: A Scifi Alien Romance (Galactic Gladiators Book 5)  by Anna Hackett 3 Stars!

Space marine Blaine Strong enjoyed being a composed, controlled member of space station security…until he was abducted by alien slavers. Forced into underground fight rings and pumped full of drugs, he’s now seething with anger and out for revenge.

Rescued by gladiators and fellow humans on the desert world of Carthago, Blaine is fighting to be the man he once was. But when the House of Galen is attacked, he must focus on joining the gladiators to fight back. That means teaming up with a tough, competitive female gladiator who not only challenges him at every turn, awakens a fierce desire he’s never felt before, but a woman who can sense the churning emotions inside him.

Gladiator Saff Essikani is the best net fighter in the Kor Magna Arena. Raised from young to fight, she bows to no man and uses her empathic abilities to win at whatever cost. With her House targeted and people under their care threatened, she’ll stop at nothing to find those responsible. But then she finds herself face to face with a big, tortured man from Earth who affects her like no man before. As Saff and Blaine head into the desert to uncover a conspiracy, their incendiary desire flares hotter than the desert suns. But as Blaine’s angry emotions rage out of control, Saff knows that unless he learns to embrace the man he is now, he has no chance of survival.

Review

Happy to see a human male get matched with an alien female. The fact that they are both amazing warriors is great as well.

I like the romance between them as the hero heals from his emotionial wounds from being a captive.

The action is fast paced but it sometimes out balanced the love story and wasn’t as interesting as it repeated some events in the earlier books.

However, new characters that I am interested in do get introduced. I will keep reading

Illusion Town (Ghost Hunters, #13) by Jayne Castle Review

Illusion Town (Illusion Town Novel, An) by Jayne Castle 3 Stars!

A new adventure begins on Harmony…

With its opulent casinos and hotels, the desert city of Illusion Town is totally unique—and will take you on a thrill ride you’ll never forget.

Hannah West isn’t the first woman to wake up in Illusion Town married to a man she barely knows, but she has no memory of the ceremony at all. For that matter, neither does Elias Coppersmith, her new husband. All either can remember is that they were on the run…

With Hannah’s dubious background and shaky para-psych profile, she could have done much worse. The cooly competent mining heir arouses her curiosity—as well as other parts of her mind and body. And even her dust bunny likes him.

But a honeymoon spent retracing their footsteps leads Hannah and Elias into the twisting underground catacombs, where secrets from both their pasts will come to light—and where the energy of their clashing auras will grow hot enough to burn…

Review

This is a fun comfort read series full of action and mystery. The dust bunnies make it even better.

This is a fully fleshed out world that is always nice to visit. If you are looking for a easy happy read with a little adventure, this is a good choice. The books in the series do blend together though. This one has a good time with a twist on the marriage of connivence theme.

4 Stars!

Review

This second book in the series follows Cat and Griffin and Co on an amazing quest. We get the same wonderful world building with a great cast of characters.

The love story remains powerful as it evolves as does the arc of the story.

The writing detailed and compelling and the plot is well paced. There is so much to like an enjoy in this mash up of Greek mythology and magic.

I think you need to read the first book to get the full pleasure out of this entry but it is a great ride and I can’t wait for the next book plus spin offs with other couples.

Nothing Special (Nothing Special, #1) by A.E. Via Review

Nothing Special  by A.E. Via 3 Stars!

Detective Cashel ‘Cash’ Godfrey is big, tattooed and angry so people typically keep their distance. He’s fresh out of the police academy, however, no one is looking to partner with the six foot four beast with a huge chip on his shoulder and an inability to trust. When Cash scans the orientation room he wasn’t expecting to find sexy hazel eyes locked onto him. Eyes of the handsome Detective Leonidis ‘Leo’ Day.

Leo is charming, witty, hilariously sarcastic and the only one that can make Cash smile. He’s proud, out and one bad-ass detective.

Together Cash and Leo become the most revered and successful narcotics detectives Atlanta’s ever seen. Able to communicate and understand each other, without even having to voice it, they quickly climb up the promotional ranks.

When Cash saves Leo’s life in a raid that turns deadly, Leo begins to see something in the big man that no one else does…something special. But Leo fears he’ll never break through the impenetrable wall that protects Cash’s heart.

Review

This book is a bit over the top like a slightly cheesy crime show. I could get behind that.

I was sailing along and then the plot pushed into more in the case of God’s backstory and how he dealt with it in the present.

Then, I could have used more discussion of the change in the relationship status and God’s sexuality. Anything on Day besides his lovely brother would have been nice.

I like the love between the heroes which kept me going.

And then….crazy erotica town instead of romance town and including complete about faces with two characters that were not redeemable so fast nor was this believable in the characters.

Then God’s family stuff has an easy resolution.

So, candy then too off character but fun and tender chemistry between the heroes.

The Leopard King (Ars Numina, #1) by Ann Aguirre Review

Review:

The Leopard King (Ars Numina) (Volume 1) - Ann Aguirre

Proud. Imperious. Impassioned.

Until three years ago, those words applied to Dominic Asher, the leader of Ash Valley. His family has ruled the feline branch of the Animari for hundreds of years, guiding the pride through perilous times. Unspeakable loss drove him into seclusion, a feral beast nobody can tame. Now he’s wrecked, a leopard king in exile, and he wants nothing more than to die.

Fierce. Loyal. Determined.

Fortunately for Dom, those words still apply to Pru Bristow, his dead mate’s best friend. She’s had her heart broken too, but she never quits. With the conclave approaching, alliances with the Pine Ridge pack and Burnt Amber clans on the verge of collapse, she’s prepared to do whatever it takes to drag their leader back, before his second can start a war.

At best theirs seems like a desperate alliance, but when their mate bond turns hot and fierce, there’s no end to the questions and the doubts. Neither of them expects to fall in love. But sometimes people don’t know what they’re looking for until they find it.

Review

This is a great start to a new paranormal series. The action is pretty intense and I really liked the leads.

The heroine is everything I adore. She is fierce, flawed, and practical.

The hero is coming out of a very dark place but his love, respect, and like of the heroine endear him to me.

It is a sexy book with lots of action. Can’t wait to read more in the series.
