Look to the Stars by Olivia Kelly Review

Look to the Stars by Olivia Kelly 3 Stars!

Leonato Blakeley, heir to the earldom of Pennyworth, has no intention of marrying any time soon. He’s not against marriage, unless the term is being paired with his name. His great-uncle, the matchmaking Duke of Danby, has arrived in town, and Leo needs A Plan.

Romance review site Smart Bitches, Trashy Books gives this novella an A rating and called it “exactly the book I needed to read at exactly the right moment I needed to read it”. Reviewer Elyse says “Look to the Stars was the perfect Regency novella to reset my mind.”

American heiress Miriam Rosenbaum has crossed an ocean to study the stars with the best scientists in the field. Well, perhaps her mother thinks they’re in London to find husbands for the scandalous Madcap Rosenbaum sisters. But Miriam is determined not only to visit the Royal Observatory, but participate in their groundbreaking research.

Together, they might have a chance at accomplishing their goals. But when the Season is over, walling away from each other might be their greatest challenge yet.

Review

A great little Regency romance with a Jewish heroine who just wants to study the stars and a hero who realizes he wants more from life and want he wants is a life with her.

Very nice banter!

This novel could have been more robust but every thing here is well done.

Review

I enjoyed this book a lot but there are writing errors and almost all the tropes of the book are heavy handed.

What saved it was fun dialogue, a great circle of friends, a wonderful sweet hero, and a geeky heroine.

Our hero and heroine are both shy which is fun. The hero is very self aware and kind. The heroine has PTSD from a past attempted rape.

The hero’s lovely wooing of the heroine plus the fact that that he is a super hot Scot let me enjoy the book despite the telling passages, lack of complexity, and typos.

Review

I just did a reread of this book—I have read it more than 4 times.

I love the world of Celta. This is hands down one my my favorite series and what I would take on a desert island.

This book is a treasure of a heroine who everyone thinks of as plain but who is a great power. I love that she isn’t always likable but so loyal.

The hero is wonderful as he wants his love. His pursuit is lovely.

There is so much healing an finding of value in Robin Owen’s work which is balanced with the charm of talking cats and really moving love stories.

A great book especially if you love a best hero with a will of iron.

To Woo A Warrior (Southern Sanctuary, #1) by Jane Cousins Review

To Woo A Warrior (Southern Sanctuary Book 1)  by Jane Cousins  3.5 Stars!

t was common knowledge that Hadleigh Valhalla was a complete failure when it came to men. Too blood thirsty. Too tall at 6.6ft and without a coy bone in her too voluptuous body. If there had been a ‘fun, flirty and feminine’ test she would have failed it hands down.
Thankfully she was much more suited to her role as an Enforcer, protecting her magically enhanced eccentric extended family on a daily basis from all kinds of nasties. It was a job she loved, much preferring to be out there beheading the baddies than dating any day of the week … much less stressful.
Except now there’s a new threat in town. Great Aunt Alma, the family match maker has returned to the fold and set her sights squarely on all the singletons. Hadleigh will do anything she has to in order to avoid Alma’s matchmaking manoeuvres even if that means signing on as the newest member of the hit reality TV show ‘Paranormal Exterminators.’

Vaughn, Captain of the Goddess Maat’s elite warriors has a mission, to find and annihilate any and all magical beings that threaten to tilt the scales of justice into chaos.
A paranormal reality TV show provides the perfect cover. But there’s trouble on set. Their only female cast member has gone missing and they need a replacement fast. Enter Hadleigh Valhalla, the most luscious thing on two legs he’s seen in a century. From the moment he sets eyes on her he’s determined to make her his.
There’s only one problem, Hadleigh insists she has a strict no dating policy. Claiming she’d rather be fighting than flirting.
A series of mishaps means it’s a race against time for Vaughn and Hadleigh to discover just who is targeting the show and stop them before someone gets seriously hurt or dead. While doing so Vaughn intends to teach Hadleigh to break all the rules and prove to her she is just as much woman as she is warrior.
His warrior. His woman.

Review

I was promised a light hearted fun paranormal romp in an interesting magic system and that is exactly what I got.

I am looking forward to the frothy reading of this series with a matchmaking great aunt on the loose.

I loved the steadfast hero and the kickass warrior heroine. I wish her self esteem issues weren’t such and issue and we got more depth in the world and with each of their relationships.

However, I am sure each of these factor will build through out the series making each book more and more rich.

Review

This is a lovely, sexy, sweet romance made all the better by the super tough hero’s little puffball of a dog.

I loved the steadfast kind tattooed up hero. Who wouldn’t? The heroine comes into her own as she works through her issues that stem from neglect and trauma.

Nico is a sweet Alpha hero which we don’t get enough of in Romanceland.

The books was really enjoyable.

However, there were lots of little things I wanted to make it a richer feast. The heroine who loves books talking about books much more. More dog antics. I would have liked to know what all those tattoos were. I would have loved to really see the heroine go through therapy a bit and more of the support group she joins.

Very good overall!

I Want You to Want Me (Rock Star Romance, #2) by Erika Kelly Review

3 Stars

Derek Valencia finally has the success he’s worked so hard for. His band is touring its debut album and great reviews are rolling in. But when pictures of him tossing naked groupies off a balcony go viral, it’s damage-control time. He’s assigned a “babysitter” whose sole job is to keep him out of trouble.
Violet Davis swore she’d never work in the music industry again, but being a minder for a rock star will earn her enough to pay off the mortgage on her wildflower farm. And for a girl brought up in the foster care system, owning her own home means more to her than anything.

Though at first the two bang heads, the rocker and the farm girl soon grow close and realize that they make sweet music together. But can a girl who craves the stability of life on a farm really make it work with a man whose life is spent on the road with his band?

Review

I like a great deal about this book but I dislike about the same amount.

I love how competent the heroine is and the very real portral of how foster care system shapes her. I think it is intersting how her job as a minder grew out of her emotionial intelligence gained in the system.

The hero’s self esteem struggles are also interesting. I like the close look at addiction and denial in the other characters as well as group dynamics.

Who doesn’t love a wildflower farm?

What I did not like is how long it took the hero and heroine to evolve. They really needed to at least say out loud how they thought this thing between them might or might not work and then try. Given who they are they would stumble but this would be a much better book if they just adulted a little in terms of communication.

We get horrible drama instead which makes both of them undatable.

And the other band members are such wankers. Which is fine but there is all this talk of how close and what a family they are.

We have some good moments of recognition of wankerness but I needed way more.

There is too much red haze lust in here which gets in the way of plot for me.

So…. Calix looks like a great character and is up next but I am not sure I can take all the side stuff and more lack of TALKING.

Shadow’s Seduction (The Dacians #2) by Kresley Cole Review

4 Stars!

Prince Mirceo Daciano and his new friend, Caspion the Tracker, comb the streets of Dacia, drunkenly seeking out pleasures of the flesh. In what should have been a typical night, they coax a bevy of nymphs to bed. To impress their females, the demon and the vampire kiss on a dare.

Even if Mirceo accepts Caspion as his fated mate, the seductive vampire still must convince the stubborn demon that their bond is forever. And any royal Dacian union must receive the blessing of King Lothaire, an unpredictable and savage killer. . . .

Review

This is the most scotching hot Kresley Cole book I have read in a long time.

It is lovely novella opposites attract, fated mates, friends to lovers fun with one heck of a resistant hero and another hero who needs to grow to be ready for his mate.

There is cool adventure mixed in with this erotic romance.

Enjoy!

Will taking the long distance out of their relationship ruin the perfect thing they had going?

Review

This book was a lovely surprise. It has emotionial depth without angst mixed in with playful erotic twists.

I loved the hero who is not a fantasy of the physically perfect but who is confident and attuned to the heroine.

The heroine is guarded and fierce. The hero loves her and goes all out. There is a great little aside about the importance of matter of matching sex drives I valued. I also valued the lack of the hero being a man whore (he has plenty of talent in bed and a sexy voice) and the sexual assuredness of the heroin.

The turn of the book is when the heroine sees herself anew and changes to be open to love.

This is a fast paced sexy as hell romance that makes you want this couple to find happiness.

True Devotion (True, #2) by Liora Blake Review

Review:

True Devotion (The True Series) - Liora Blake

Find out if rock sensation Simon can break through tough-girl Devon’s steely exterior—if he can keep his head on straight, that is—in this second sizzling romance in the True series!

Devon Jenkins is a feisty blonde, and Simon Cole is the arrogant, sexy guitarist playing in her brother’s band. When they met for the first time, it went something like this: He hit on her, she shot him down, he made a lewd joke, she told him he was an idiot.

In the two years since then, not much has changed. From the way Simon flirts shamelessly with any set of ovaries within a 100-mile radius, Devon knows the smartest thing she can do is keep an impenetrable wall between them.

But sometimes the smart choice isn’t necessarily the right one…

Review

Yea! This book is really lovely with a reluctant, witty, assertive massage therapist heroine and sexy sunny hot nerdy rock star hero in pursuit.

This is a wonderful character driven romance that sides steps drama until the end where it stumbles a bit with plot moves that were not needed but overall the chemistry and banter between the couple is so delicious.

A very satisfying romance.

Rock Chick Reawakening by Kristina Ashley 5 Star Review!

Review:

Rock Chick Reawakening - Kristen Ashley

Rock Chick Reawakening shares the tale of the devastating event that nearly broke Daisy, an event that set Marcus Sloan—one of Denver’s most respected businessmen and one of the Denver underground’s most feared crime bosses—into finally making his move to win the heart of the woman who stole his.

Review

I like all the other rabid Kristen Ashley fans have been waiting for this book.

Daisy and Marcus. Sigh.

And it was wonderful. I think even if you hadn’t read the series, you would think it was wonderful But I have read (and reread Rock Chicks) and so I read this one twice in a row with pleasure.

Ashley does a great job telling the backstories of the characters we have known so long and showing Marcus fall hard and instantly and Daisy fall in love.

The sorrow of the events that marked Daisy are done it way that makes an argument for the senseless and the attack of power and misogyny that exits in sexual assault and the reality of living as a survivor and loving a survivor.

It is a love letter to all those who have suffered. T

he book is also just plain sexy fun with glitter, bell like laughter, hot looks, walk ons by favorite characters and the signature Ashley lush lush epilogue which takes this little novella into the land of fairytale in a good way.
