Navy SEAL

Off Base (Out of Uniform, #1) by Annabeth Albert Review

Off Base (Out of Uniform) by Annabeth Albert  4 Stars!

After trading the barracks for a fixer-upper rental, navy SEAL Zack Nelson wants peace, not a roommate—especially not Pike, who sees things about Zack he most wants to hide. Pike’s flirting puts virgin Zack on edge. And the questions Pike’s arrival would spark from Zack’s teammates about his own sexuality? Nope. Not going there. But Zack can’t refuse.

Pike Reynolds knows there won’t be a warm welcome in his new home. What can he say? He’s an acquired taste. But he needs this chance to get his life together. Also, teasing the uptight SEAL will be hella fun. Still, Pike has to tread carefully; he’s had his fill of tourists in the past, and he can’t risk his heart on another, not even one as hot, as built—and, okay, yeah, as adorable—as Zack.

Living with Pike crumbles Zack’s restraint and fuels his curiosity. He discovers how well they fit together in bed…in the shower…in the hallway… He needs Pike more than he could have imagined, yet he doesn’t know how to be the man Pike deserves.

Review

We have met Zack and Pike in other books that Albert has written but they haven’t met each other.

This is a very New Adult vibe which is unusual for Albert but it really works here.

Pike and Zack are young and stubborn and kinda of life dumb in the ways of the early twenties. They don’t seek help when they should. They are working on becoming who they are. Zack in terms of his sexuality and Pike in terms of work.

Watching them being tender with each other is a really pleasure. This is a sweet human romance that I enjoyed very much despite my non love of the coming out theme. A few of the details about teaching at a community college are odd but I can suspend my disbelief.

I am so glad they met and fell in love.

Connection Error (#gaymers #3) by Annabeth Albert Review

Connection Error by Annabeth Albert 4.5 Stars!

It’s typical of video game programmer Josiah Simmons to be the last one on the plane on the way to the biggest meeting of his career. Though he’s (mostly) coping with his ADHD, he can’t handle another distraction. But he also can’t ignore his rugged seatmate—especially once he learns the military man’s a fan of his game.

Ryan Orson refuses to let his severe injuries pause his career as a navy SEAL. He’s got hours of grueling physical therapy ahead of him, and no time for anything that might get in the way of his return to active duty. But that doesn’t mean he’s above a little first-class flirtation with geeky-cute Josiah.

When a delay strands the pair in St. Louis, they agree to share a hotel room and a night of gaming. Neither expects their new connection to move to the next level in the light of day. Opposites may attract, but is this game over before it’s even begun?

Review

This is a great romance. It is realistic and romantic. Ryan is adjusting to life without legs and relationship that ended some time ago but not well. Jos is much younger, has ADHD and is adjusting to the demands of a leadership position in his job as a game designer.

They meet on a plane. Jos has no filter and crushes hard on Ryan. Things work certain ways and they develop a strong friendship and more online and off as Ryan is doing rehab at Walter Reed and Jos is on the West Coast.

They each have rich lives of friends and family.

They grown into a wonderful relationship with each other and become their better selves. There is no miracle for either hero’s disability but rather adjustments and integration. Sigh. Good stuff.

Albert does a grand job as a storyteller and you will believe in this sexy happily even after.

Such a great read! Would have loved more in the epilogue but we get to see them in the series and spin off series so all is well.

Review

Our heroine Lina is recovering  from a terrorist attack which she foiled in the kitchen of her restaurant where she is an acclaimed pastry chef.

Our hero is an American on a black ops team working with the French to prevent such things from happening.

He fell in love with Lina when he witnessed her bravery and her deep caring for her friends oh and she is hot and fierce as well.

The wonderfulness of this book is all the little details like a flower opening that I don’t want to ruin. It is a quiet book that charts the coming to turns with a new reality, two career driven people falling and love, and emotionial healing.

There are moving and complex exploration of war, politics impact of each life, racism, sexism, gender relation all with a deft and gentle hand.

Lina just wants Jake for sex at first and he rightly resents it and I adore that start but I also adore how Lina knows mistakes can be corrected and we all can begin again.

A really lovely read!

PS Jake and his freckles are hella hot

I was given this book for my honest review. So there you have it!

Chase Me (Paris Nights Book 2) by Laura Florand Review

Chase Me (Paris Nights Book 2) by Laura Florand 4 Stars!!

A Michelin two-star chef at twenty-eight, Violette Lenoir could handle anything, including a cocky burglar who broke into her restaurant in the middle of the night.

Or so she thought.

Elite counterterrorist operative Chase “Smith” had been through things that made Hell Week look easy. But nothing had prepared him for a leather-clad blonde who held him at bay at knifepoint and dared him to take her on.

Now if only saving the world didn’t require he ruin her life.

Two people who thought they could handle anything now have to take on each other.
It’s a battle neither one expected. But with their futures on the line, they have nothing to lose…but their hearts.

Warning: This book contains one arrogant Navy SEAL, nights of Paris passion, and a woman who wants to have it all

Review

This is a wonderful book with tones of old Hollywood Caper Romances in such a delightful way!

It took me a long time to read this book because like the author whose writing was effected by the terrorist attacks in Paris where this book is set and the action takes place around a black ops team working to prevent such horrors, my reading was also disturbed by too many such events too close to the plot of this book.

Laura Florand is one of my favorite writers and she does an amazing job weaving in the current events and realities of Paris into this lovely caper of a romance. As a result, the is an ache in the book as well as a joy which makes it all the better for a tale of love and resilience.

We get a sunny natured special forces hero who is so very charming and a hard as nails chef heroine who will not stand down.

This is a face paced romance with tones of action and exuberance as well as tenderness.

You will be charmed and comforted by the fierceness of human bravery.

I was given this book for my honest review. So there you have it!

It Came Upon a Midnight Clear by Suzanne Brockmann 4 Stars!

Review:

It Came Upon a Midnight Clear (Tall, Dark & Dangerous, Book 6) - Suzanne Brockmann

For my Thursday favorite book recommendation this week, I give you It Came Upon a Midnight Clear (Tall, Dark & Dangerous #6) by Suzanne Brockmann. I love the series and this is a wonderful holiday addition.

This is action packed but the small package of a category romance Brockmann spends as much time on the romance as she does the larger plot. The heroine is wonderful and Crash changes to believe that love is necessary.  Their love story will really warm you up!
