Wolf Shifter

The Alpha and His Ace (The Alpha and His Ace #1) by Ana J. Phoenix Review

Review:

The Alpha and His Ace - Ana J. Phoenix

Young, handsome, and the alpha of his wolf pack, Brandon has never had trouble finding men to have sex with. Only one thing is missing–his mate. Brandon can’t find him, and the rest of his pack is growing concerned about his lack of partner. An alpha needs a strong partner.

Things seem to be looking up when he finally finds his fated companion in Aidan. One problem—Aidan’s asexual, and Brandon’s now confused. Who doesn’t want sex? Aidan, that’s who. And Brandon hasn’t got a clue how to make someone love him without it.

It’s going to take some serious self-examination, acceptance, and some really good cake for Brandon to make his way into Aidan’s heart.

Review

A pretty bland wolf shifter romance made more interesting by the fated mate being asexual.

The world building needed much more detail but the characters and character driven conflict was intersting. Needed more time.

Markon’s Claim (The Last Alphas of Thracos #2) by Marina Maddix Review .

Review:

Markon's Claim: A SciFi Alien Shifter Romance (The Last Alphas of Thracos Book 2) - Marina Maddix

She wants to do her job. He just wants her.

Ever since being taken in by the Wargs of the Valley, my sole focus has been on curing their fertility problem. I don’t care that everyone seems to think I should accept the bite that would transform me into a wolf-like shifter. I have more important things to think about.

Then I meet him — the dead-sexy new alpha of the Hill Wargs who can’t seem to get enough of my curves. Markon stirs something in me that I’ve never felt before, and that kind of distraction is the last thing I need. Unfortunately, it’s all I can think about.

And now he’s pressuring me to become a Warg, too. Something about finding out if I’m his fated mate. Nonsense! Fated mates don’t actually exist.

Do they?

Review

The genius heroine makes this wolf shifter romance set on another planet a lot of fun. The romance is really nice up until the moment it happens and then it goes super fast.

The series story develops more. The bad guys are cartoony but the research quest is intersting.

Nix (Rolling Thunder Motorcycle Club #7.5) by Candace Blevins Review

4 Stars!

Predator and prey…

Nix recently transferred to Chattanooga from the Asheville RTMC chapter. The MC’s new gun store needs someone to teach rifle classes, and Nix was a Special Forces sniper in the military.

Tippy came to Chattanooga to start her life anew. She’s a shooter as well, and she won a silver medal at the Olympics, but she uses a different name now and tries to stay out of the limelight. Most deer can’t function in human society, but she’s found ways to navigate modern life without her deer freezing or running every time something startles her.

Wolves are fiercely monogamous when they fall in love, while deer have trouble understanding the concept of exclusivity. Then there’s the fact wolves eat deer in the wild.

A wolf and a deer madly in love and living happily ever after has to be impossible. Right?

Review

I love a heroine that is very very good at something and a hero who crushes on her for her talent as it embodies who she is.

Our heroine is an Olympic level shooter and gun smith. Our hero is a world class sniper with a big ole crush on her.

Oh, he is a biker wolf shifter and she is a deer shifter. So, yeah.

The romance is hot and touching as predator and prey work out how to be together with cultural differences around sex within the background of a motorcycle club.

I am not thrilled with some elements of how the wolf dealt with the poly piece in terms of what is being said about who and what counts as sex but within the context of this couple and this world it makes sense.

This is a really enjoyable erotic action packed paranormal romance.

Ghost (Rolling Thunder Motorcycle Club Book 8) Candace Blevins Review

4 Stars!

At eight years old, Hailey’s life took a turn for the better when her mom married Darnell, despite the fact she had to put up with his asshole son for a stepbrother. Eight years later — the day after her stepbrother graduated high school — Darnell and his son moved out, and the divorce was final six weeks later. She hasn’t seen either of them since.

Ghost works at the gun store, but one evening the MC is shorthanded and he’s sent to help watch over their stable of working girls. He walks in and smells Hailey, his ex-stepsister, and shortly thereafter drags her out and carries her home.

Brothers and sisters fight. It’s what they do. But when the worst happens, they’re there for each other. They haven’t seen each other in six years, but some things never change.

Review

I always wonder with this series if I am going to get pushed too far. Stepbrother stuff is not my bag. At all. Also, I tend to think that when an author choose to write it combined with the the motorcycle club stuff, they are just looking for a pay day and not also to write a good book.

I am pleased to support someone’s payday but not a bad book.

I read this despite my not loving BDSM and hate of Stepbrother romance.

And as always Blevins wrote a hell of a good book. Things get really dark with the topping but I am able to hang in there for that when it is paranormal in ways I just couldn’t in contemporary romance.

The heroine is fine with where she is at as the book opens but I am really not. It is one of my reservations about the book. I get that she has lots of grief and is likely in a depression over what she is has lost (but the writer doesn’t really detail this fully) but I can not believe as resourceful and self sufficient as this heroine is that she didn’t create different options for herself. I never buy it and think the opening of the book isn’t needed.

The rest of the book is crazy awesome sauce. The age gap and the the years apart take the eww at of the stepbrother thing and then the plot just takes off like a runaway train.

Great world building, steadfast hero, admirable heroine, sweet super hot romance, wonderful series plot arc, all sorts of surprises and action.

Just so very very good. All the little details, cast of characters, and character development add up to a wonderful tale.

This is a long lush never stop book that gives a great Happily Ever After coming out of a dark tunnel into the light.

Acceptable Risk (Chattanooga Supernaturals, #2.5) by Candace Blevins Review

Bethany has teased for years that if she ever settles down, it’ll be with a harem of men.

Mac is a new werewolf, and is still learning control. When he overhears the beautiful redhead at the bar wanting to take on not only him, but also the werewolf and wereleopard chaperoning his night out… he has to convince them to take her home. With two powerful shapeshifters in bed, what could go wrong?

Read

This is a must read if you are enjoying Candace Blevins’ interlinked erotic Paranormal Series. The poly group that forms in this book makes a lot of appearances in later books.

The heroes are great and the sexy is hot. As always with Blevins, the world building is compelling as is the writing.

Because this is a novella, the heroine is not as well developed (or maybe she is developed in early book) and I wasn’t as into the romance.

But I am glad I read this one to fill in the world.

Not to mention her life.Lust and love between a wolf and a human are strictly forbidden. But for Connor, Serena may be willing to break all the rules…

Review

Well, that was dark. This is a grim world where pretty much everyone is awful.

The hero and the heroine are shining lights in the world and the heroine’s struggle to overcome what she has been taught is compelling.

I longed for Connor’s point of view as we are so locked into the heroine’s and it would have made the world richer (as he knows more than she does).

Sexy, emotionial quick read.

Gonzo (Rolling Thunder Motorcycle Club Book 7) Candace Blevins Review

4 Stars!

Gonzo has not only had to come to terms with the loss of his entire family, but he also barely survived being shot in the chest multiple times while still a human, and was then later turned into a werewolf during a vicious attack while hiking as he tried to put his life back together.

Constance has had her own losses to deal with, and while nowhere near as bad as Gonzo’s, they’ve left a mark on her as well. She’s determined to live her life without a partner though, because her two sexual experiences in college convinced her she’s asexual.

Gonzo’s a biker people cross the road to avoid, while Constance has multiple doctorate degrees and works as a research scientist for a leading pharmaceutical firm. Gonzo doesn’t trust women, Constance has no use for men — and yet they’re going to find themselves working toward the same goals.

Can they form a team to do what needs to be done?

Review

At its heart, this is a sweet romance about grief and loss. But on top of that we have all sorts of other crazy themes–wolf shifter, aunt raising her sisters kids, secret baby, motorcycle club, opposites attract–all kinds of fun that make this a really good time.

Gonzo was really dead inside and kind of awful earlier in the series. He hates women and acts like it. We get to know why in this book and Blevins does a great job making him into a wonderful hero.

I like the quiet, fierce, practical heroine a lot. I love an opposites romance so this romance makes me happy.

I wasn’t really thrilled with the asexual angle in the book. Blevins does a great job through out the series presenting and developing a spectrum of sexualities as part of her characters. It turns out Constance wasn’t asexual but needed a bit more kink to get her going which is all good but the idea of asexuality gets a bit mishandled I think also the heroine is a genius. We should see much more of that part of her than we do. Also, Gonzo is a little too callus at times about custody issues.

However, couple time is grand in this book as Gonzo can’t help but fall in love and neither can Constance. They both grow and heal. It is a really lovely romance in that way.

I like kids and I like the kids in this romance and how parent is handled and discussing. Even though this is a erotic romance there is a lot of talking.

The series plot moves forward nicely and all the characters show up in great ways.

A very good read.

While I like the heroine and hero a lot, I just didn’t like the story telling or the romance. It might work for you but it didn’t work for me.

Review

This is a quick fun read with a heroine who stands up for herself and sexy nice guy hero who really likes her and is a wolf shifter. There isn’t much more going on that that in terms of character development but there is enough here to make it a fun read and the other members of the pack look like good heroes for more books in the series.

Lost Roar (Shifting Crossroads Book 12) by Zenina Masters

Review:

Lost Roar - Zenina Masters

Nicia was at the fundamental lion compound and rescued from a life as guard beast for her family.

Her mother’s family takes her in and helps her recover from the years of abuse.

Once she is recovered, she decides that it is time to seek out a mate, provided she could change her mind and come home if needed. With that agreement in place, she heads to the Crossroads.

Braxton has been watching for a mate, and while several women came close, it was the sombre lioness asking for directions that caught his attention. He wanted to make her smile, and when that became his primary pleasure, he knew he was in deep.

Review

This short story takes a peek at the aftermath of patriarchal poly cults shifter style.

The heroine is a great hunter recovering from a terrible family life. The hero loves her exactly as she is.

This makes for a good romance.
